2004 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN TRUCK RACING SERIES
A WILD ONE AT GATEWAY INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY SEES A "STARR" SHINE IN VICTORY LANE

July 17, 2004 A "Starr" was shining in Victory Lane Saturday night at Gateway International Raceway. David Starr won the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event, where the series set a record for the most green-white-checkered restarts at four. Starr survived a beating and banging affair late in the event that saw leaders Shane Hmiel and Bobby Hamilton crash while battling for the lead. Starr bumped Chad Chaffin on the last lap in turns one and two to earn his second-career victory and first of the 2004 season.
Starr, driving a Chevrolet, nudged his way past Chad Chaffin in Gateway International Raceway's first turn and beat Dennis Setzer to the checkered flag by 0.444 seconds -- about two truck lengths.
The race was scheduled for 160 laps, but was extended by caution a record four times for 14 laps.
Starr, who averaged 93.694 mph, won $54,210 for his first victory since October 2002 in Las Vegas.
