Brandon Whitt pulled the rabbit out of the hat when leader Ron Hornaday spun
coming out of turn four coming to the checkered flag to win the O'Reilly Auto
Parts 200 at Memphis Motorsports Park on Saturday night. Whitt started from the
pole and survived a hot night that left him with a blistered backside to pick up
his first career NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series win.
Reutimann followed Whitt through for second, followed by Brendan Gaughan, point
leader Dennis Setzer, and David Starr. Reutimann missed a shift on a late race
restart, allowing Whitt to sneak by for position. Reutimann was understandably
disappointed in a mistake that ultimately resulted in the race winning pass.
Hornaday went from leading the race coming to the checkered to the last finisher
on the lead lap at the end. He took the checkered in reverse, backing down the
front stretch, and was credited with 21st.
There were a record 13 caution flags which slowed the race for 54 laps.
