24-year-old brings home top-15 finish
MOORESVILLE, NC- Some people view rain as good luck, but
others tend to believe that when it rains, it pours. That was the case for
24-year-old Ken Butler III and the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series Northern Division
as they headed to Kil-Kare Speedway on May 12.
"It rained out qualifying and the race on Friday, so on
Saturday we ended up starting by points," said Butler, driver of the No. 00
Aaron's Dream Machine. "In practice, we wrecked our primary car when I overdrove
turn four and wrecked. It bent the clip on the rear end.
"We had to go to a backup car and the car was fast, but
our starter wasn’t working. We got through some of the race, and then there was
a wreck in front of us. I had to stop the car and the motor stalled out, so we
lost some laps with that, but we ended up finishing 14th."
New tracks are nothing new to KBIII. The past two years
he has run in two different divisions of the series that has traveled both the
North and South, and Kil-Kare was just another one to add to his list.
"It was the weirdest racetrack that I have ever been to,"
said Butler. "You just couldn’t go wide-open. It was crazy. You were constantly
turning. It was just turning, turning and more turning. There was no
straightaway. You were never wide-open on the throttle and you just had to baby
the throttle."
While the Northern division of the USAR Hooters Pro Cup
Series is new to KBIII, it is getting to that point in the season where tracks
that he has experience on are coming into play, and experience is always a good
thing.
"We have this week off, but then we are heading up to
Jennerstown Speedway. Jennerstown is a pretty cool track. We raced there last
year in the championship series and we ended up finishing 20th. Hopefully that
experience will help and we will be able to get a good finish."
